With the AMA Supercross season ending Saturday in Salt Lake City, the last batch of winners graced the podium and the final champions were crowned.
In the previous two weeks, Team Honda HRC’s Jett Lawrence won the 250SX East title in Foxborough, Mass., and Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha’s Eli Tomac closed out the 450SX championship in Denver. In the season finale, Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha’s Christian Craig claimed the 250SX West title while Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jason Anderson collected his seventh win in the 450SX class this year to secure his runner-up position in the final season standings.
The win marked the fourth consecutive for Anderson.
Elsewhere in the 450SX class, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Malcolm Stewart capped off a career-best season with a fourth-place finish in Round 17. Stewart’s performance in the finale secured third in the 450SX standings — the best 450SX finish of his career.
In the 250SX class, Craig didn’t need much to clinch the West title thanks to his dominant performance throughout the year. The 30-year-old rider cruised to eight and his first 250SX West crown Saturday.
Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha’s Nate Thrasher, who entered Saturday without a win in 2022, claimed the top spot in the Round 17 event.
While much of the drama was removed from the other classes that’d already crowned champions, the AMA Supercross Futures title was still very much up in the air entering Saturday’s event.
With the AMA National Championship on the line, Team Honda HRC’s Chance Hymas beat out Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green’s Ryder DiFrancesco and was crowned the AMA Supercross Futures National Champion.
The 16-year-old Hymas finished with three wins and four podiums on the year.
AMA Supercross will return in 2023.
