Dual Sport Riding
When the road-less-traveled suddenly turns into the singletrack trail of your dreams, that’s when you know you’re on a proper, AMA-sanctioned dual-sport ride.
Featuring routes made up of a majority of off-road trail sections (single- or dual-track) connected by lightly traveled rural backroads, AMA dual-sport rides are one of the best ways to experience off-road riding and explore the best landscapes that unpaved America has to offer.
Best Motorcycles for Dual Sport Riding
Typically routed across challenging off-road terrain, dual-sport rides are best suited for lightweight off-road motorcycles that are under 600cc displacement and equipped with knobby or semi-knobby tires. AMA dual sports often feature optional, specially marked “Hero Sections” for riders who want extra off-road challenge, though there is always a bypass around these difficult sections for riders seeking a less aggressive route.
AMA dual sports are non-competitive events — there is no timing or score keeping — and all motorcycles must be licensed and insured for street riding, since public roads are used to connect the various off-road sections.
The Beta AMA National Dual Sport Series includes some of the most amazing single-track trails in the country, all tied together by incredible back roads through America’s countryside. Designed to provide the perfect off-road riding experience, these two-day events include ample, challenging routes that are well marked and well designed.
