TDN: Trial des Nations

The annual Trial des Nations (TDN) is the most prestigious Observed Trials event in the world.

Sanctioned by the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), the TDN invites national teams from around the world to compete against each other to determine the World Championship of Observed Trials.

Each country participating in the TDN is authorized to have three riders on its Men’s Team (either in the TrialGP or the International class), three riders on its Women’s Team, and two riders (One Trial125 Male and Trial2 Female) on its TDN Challenge Team. As the sole U.S. affiliate of the FIM, the AMA is responsible for assembling each year’s U.S. TDN teams.

First held in Myslenice, Poland, in 1984, the TDN has since traveled around the world highlighted for the USA by being held in Watkins Glen, New York in 1992. Team USA has won the Men’s International Class twice in 2000 and 2005.

The rules of the TDN have evolved considerably over the years but always follows the TrialGP ruleset. Each rider in their respective team must ride the designated difficulty line in the sections and are scored on observed points. The teams overall score is based on the best two of three rides (with the exception of the TDN challenge team where both scores always count) on any given section accumulated throughout the day. The lowest scoring team wins!
