American Motorcyclist Association asks motorists, motorcyclists to use caution during Independence Day weekend

Road users urged to drive defensively, avoid distractions on holiday celebrating American freedom

PICKERINGTON, Ohio — As communities across the nation prepare to celebrate U.S. Independence Day this coming weekend, the American Motorcyclist Association asks road users to exercise good judgment, operate their vehicles defensively and avoid distracted or impaired driving so everyone can enjoy a fun and safe July 4th holiday.

“Use extra caution during this weekend when we celebrate our many American freedoms, including the freedom to ride,” AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman said. “Even though some communities have canceled big celebrations and more people will be staying closer to home, we should expect more traffic during the long weekend than we have been experiencing recently.

“Leave early to give yourself plenty of time to reach your destinations. Be on the lookout for the many motorcyclists who will be on the road. We encourage everyone to help make this a safe, enjoyable Independence Day for all.”

Throughout the year, the AMA works to make America’s highways safer for motorcyclists. The AMA has been at the forefront in dealing with distracted driving by motorists.
