Team Honda HRC’s Chase Sexton has visited plenty of podiums in his 22 years of life, but his visit Saturday in San Diego was a first.

For the first time in his young career, Sexton collected an AMA Supercross 450SX win in dominating fashion, winning by a margin of over six seconds.

“I still can’t believe it, honestly,” Sexton told NBC Sports’ Will Christien. “This is a dream come true. I’ve come so close a number of times. That felt like a dream ride. I felt comfortable; didn’t make any mistakes and I finally got it done.”

Sexton’s explosive performance shared the podium with Star Racing Yamaha’s Eli Tomac (second) and Dylan Ferrandis (third). The first-place finish drew Sexton closer to Tomac, who sits atop the 450SX standings after Round 3.

With 58 points, Sexton is tied with defending-champion Cooper Webb through three races. Both riders sit one point behind Tomac’s 59-point total.

Sexton, who finished 12th in AMA Supercross 450SX for the 2021 season, will continue his pursuit for the 450 crown this Saturday in Anaheim, Calif.
