Event runs from July 7-13 at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds
PICKERINGTON, Ohio (June 6, 2022) — With the Mission Foods AMA Flat Track Grand Championship just a month away, the AMA has released the schedule for the week-long event.
Taking place at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds in Du Quoin, Ill., the country’s premier amateur flat track event — and the only race in the country where you can earn an AMA National No. 1 plate in amateur flat track racing — runs July 7-13.
Gate 6 opens a day prior on Wednesday, July 6, at noon for competitors to register and check-in before a rider briefing. Gate 6 opens at 7 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, for the first day of racing, while Gate 3 — for camping — and the Main Gate will be open 24 hours unless closed for racing.
AMA National No. 1 plates will be awarded to racers in each class across all four disciplines of flat track racing: Mile, Half-Mile, Short Track and TT.
Beginning with TT racing on July 7, racing continues throughout the duration of the event with awards presentations and other exciting events sprinkled throughout the schedule.
Special awards to be presented at the end of the event program include the prestigious Nicky Hayden AMA Flat Track Horizon Award, AMA Fast Brain Award, AMA Vet/Senior Racer of the Year and AMA Youth Racer of the Year.
The Roof Systems of Dallas Rider Cookout, which will also feature tasty tortillas and chips from Mission Foods, will take place Friday, July 8, from 7-9 p.m. at the Pavilion.
“I’m very proud to be part of the AMA’s Flat Track Grand Championship event and happy to sponsor the cookout for all the riders and teams attending,” said Roof Systems of Dallas owner and CEO — and ex-racer — Jerry Stinchfield. “Good luck to all the competitors during what is always a great week of amateur racing!”
This year’s Mission Foods AMA Flat Track Grand Championship will feature AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer and On Any Sunday star David Aldana as Grand Marshal. Aldana expects to turn back the clock and race the Du Quoin Mile, his first time racing a Mile event since his On Any Sunday days. Aldana and additional high-profile flat track racers from the American Flat Track Series will be on hand for a question-and-answer session on Thursday evening.
