AMA Fast Brain Award offers educational scholarship to winner
Award presented at AMA Racing Flat Track Grand Championships
PICKERINGTON, Ohio — When the fastest amateur flat track racers in America line up at the 2020 AMA Flat Track Grand Championship on July 20-24 in Plymouth, Ind., and Ashland, Ohio, they not only will race for AMA National No. 1 plates, but many young riders will compete for the AMA Fast Brain Award, an annual educational scholarship.
Funded by Tim Estenson of Estenson Racing, Jerry Stinchfield of Roof System Racing, AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Legend Bill Werner and Dave Zanotti of Zanotti Racing, the 2020 AMA Fast Brain Award will present $1,500 to a racer who demonstrates excellence in the classroom.
“While racing is fun and thrilling, success in the classroom is even more important,” said AMA Track Racing Manager Ken Saillant. “The AMA Fast Brain Award is one way we recognize that importance, by shining the spotlight on a rider who demonstrates academic excellence.”
The scholarship recipient will need to show strong performance at the weeklong AMA Flat Track Grand Championship, as well as excellence on official school transcripts supplied at the time of application.
The AMA Flat Track Grand Championships feature national-caliber competition in half-mile, short-track and TT racing. Classes are available for riders of nearly all ages riding motorcycles in a range of displacements.
In addition to national championships, the fastest riders in premier classes compete for the Nicky Hayden AMA Flat Track Horizon Award, which honors an amateur racer poised for success at the pro level.
Riders in grades K-12, as well as college students enrolled in an accredited program, are eligible for the AMA Fast Brain Award. AMA Flat Track Grand Championship entrants should email their interest in the award, along with copies of official school grade cards or transcripts, to ksaillant@ama-cycle.org by July 17. Applications may also be submitted at race registration if accompanied by official grade cards or transcripts. Applications without proof of academic performance will be rejected.
