Team Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac put his stamp on the AMA Supercross record books on Saturday night with a commanding win at Daytona International Speedway – his fifth there in the last six years (’16, ’17, ’19, ’20 and ’21) and his 36th Supercross win overall. The victory ties AMA Hall of Famer and GOAT Ricky Carmichael for most wins (5) at the historic venue.
“It’s a little hard to believe,” Tomac said afterward. “I mean, five out of the last six years is more than I would have ever expected. Tonight we had a great start from the beginning.”
Carmichael mentioned the possibility of the accomplishment during the NBCSN broadcast, saying something to the effect of, “I hope he does it…I like watching history be made.”
Tomac inched seven points closer to series points leader Ken Roczen with the win but still sits third overall and trails by Roczen by 24, with Cooper Webb in second and just two points back of Roczen.
The Daytona Supercross multiple-win list currently looks like this:
Ricky Carmichael (5)
Eli Tomac (5)
Jeff Stanton (4)
Ryan Villopoto (4)
Bob Hannah (3)
Mike Kiedrowski (3)
Jeremy McGrath (3)
Chad Reed (3)
Rick Johnson (2)
Darrell Shultz (2)
James Stewart (2)
