Traveling 2,493 miles on a motorcycle in 24 hours seems impossible, right?
On April 30, 2023, however, five-time enduro world champion Iván Cervantes accomplished the feat and claimed the Guinness World Record (2493.28 miles) for distance traveled on a motorcycle in a 24-hour period by an individual, shattering the previous record of 2116.39 miles.
Setting the record on a 7.86-mile track in Italy, Cervantes averaged a speed of 104.26 mph over the 24 hours. During the daylong feat, Cervantes pitted 18 times, used 137.37 gallons of fuel and changed his tires once.
Announced as one of Triumph’s off-road ambassadors in 2021, Cervantes gave credit to the Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Explorer for helping him capture the record.
“The Tiger 1200 GT Explorer was the perfect bike for this attempt,” Cervantes said. “It’s very comfortable to ride for a long time. For sure, the hardest part was the weather, because it started to rain, but this bike has a very big screen and excellent protection, which helped me a lot. It is a very special bike for me. It’s not easy to ride for 24 hours in a row but, in the end, the record is mine with this amazing bike!”
In Triumph’s press release, the company stated the bike used in the attempt was randomly chosen off the production line in Triumph’s factory in Hinckley, England.
While he used the entire 24 hours, Cervantes needed only 19 hours to break the previous record set by Carl Reese in 2017, and he used the remaining five hours to set a new benchmark.
“I am truly humbled to have witnessed Iván Cervantes’s awe-inspiring achievement of setting the Guinness World Records title for the Greatest distance on a motorcycle in 24 hours (individual),” said Victor Fenes, official adjudicator for Guinness World Records. “Iván’s unwavering dedication and Triumph’s support embody the values we hold dear at Guinness World Records. It is a true testament to the indomitable spirit of human determination and the pursuit of greatness.”
