Referee Training
Referees are among the most important members of the AMA motorcycle racing ecosystem.
To provide and promote fair and honest competition, someone must enforce the racing rules with fairness and honesty — and that person is an AMA-certified referee.
AMA referees are expected to uphold the high standards of AMA-sanctioned competition, and to satisfy that expectation, the AMA has devised a thorough referee training protocol. Below you will find information on training to become an official AMA referee.
All referee training centers on the study of the AMA Competition Rulebook. Please review the rulebook completely before taking any of the below referee tests. Also see the 2023 Approved AMA Racing Rule Proposals Summary for additional information.

Class C Referee Training
The process of becoming an AMA-certified referee starts with completing the Class C training module, available here: AMA Referee “C” Test
Class "B" Testing
Those who have completed AMA Class C Referee Training are invited to participate in AMA Class B Referee Training, which expands to cover discipline-specific topics. Links to those tests can be found here:
Claim: Injured motorcyclists are uninsured and disproportionately rely upon the public to pay for their injuries.
Response: Motorcyclists are just as likely to be privately insured as any other road user.
A medical center study1 reported that injured motorcyclists in the trauma center relied on public funds a lower percentage of the time than did automobile drivers to pay their hospital bills during the same time period.
A university study2 reported that automobile drivers and motorcyclists have their medical costs covered by insurance at a nearly identical rate.
Conclusion: Injured motorcyclists are less likely than the general population to use public funds to pay for injuries sustained in crashes, and no more likely to be uninsured than other vehicle operators.

Competiton Referee Reports
AMA certified referees are required to submit post-event reports to the Sanctioned Activity Coordinators at organizerservices@ama-cycle.org.
