Racing Rulebook
A carefully considered rulebook is essential to any racing series.
Without a clear set of universally accepted rules and regulations, there is nothing to guide fair and even competition. Since 1924, the primary objective of the American Motorcyclist Association with regard to racing rules has remained unchanged: to foster strong and fair competition, to provide reasonable guidelines for the various types of competition, and to provide an impartial competition program.
The American Motorcyclist Association takes great pride in its long record of achievement as the world’s largest sanctioning body for the sport of motorcycle competition.
The rules of competition are intended only as a guide for the conduct of the sport. Rules related to safety are intended to make everyone more aware of the elements that contribute to making competition safer; however, the AMA neither warrants safety if the rules are followed, nor compliance with the enforcement of the rules at any individual event. Each participant in any competition has the responsibility to assess for themselves the safety aspects of facilities and conditions and must assume the risk of competition.
Recognized and non-recognized districts, and organizations within a district, must submit any temporary or locally appropriate supplemental regulations for approval by the AMA Racing Department. Supplemental regulations may not be in conflict with national rules. In the event of a protest or appeal, the judgment will be based on information contained in the AMA national rules. The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) prohibits discrimination in all of its programs and activities (including all AMA-sanctioned events) on the basis of race, color, national origin, creed, religion, sex, age, disability, veteran status, marital status, familial status, parental status, sexual orientation, or any other category protected by applicable state or federal law.
AMA Membership
AMA membership is encouraged for all AMA-sanctioned recreational riding events, and certain events may require AMA membership for all participants. Event organizers are responsible for ensuring their events meet the requirements of the AMA and event insurance providers. These rules are intended to provide a safe riding environment for all participants; however, the AMA does not guarantee the safety of participants, nor compliance with enforcement of the rules. Each participant in any event has the personal responsibility of assessing the safety aspects of facilities and conditions and assumes the risk of the event.
