AMA Flat Track Grand Championship

Ever since the mid-1970s, the AMA Flat Track Grand Championship has pitted top amateur flat trackers against each other in friendly competition.

As the premier amateur flat track event in the United States — and the only race in the country where you can earn an AMA National No. 1 plate in amateur flat track racing — the Mission Foods AMA Flat Track Grand Championship is unmatched in terms of history and prestige.

2024 Flat Track Grand championship

The 2024 Mission Foods AMA Flat Track Grand Championship will be held June 30-July 6, 2024, at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds in Du Quoin, Illinois.

Riders will be able to compete in all variations of flat track racing, including mile, half-mile, short track and TT events, with the overall class winners crowned national champions.

As with most AMA amateur national championships, and in recognition of the wide range of participants in amateur competition, the event includes multiple classes to provide ample opportunity for all amateur racers to compete. Age, displacement and bike-configuration classes are all offered at this event.

Special Awards

When the last race has been run and competitors hang up their steel shoes, all the practice, bike prep and powersliding towards victory deserves to be recognized. Special awards presented at the completion of the Mission Foods AMA Flat Track Grand Championship include the following:

Claim: Injured motorcyclists are uninsured and disproportionately rely upon the public to pay for their injuries.

Response: Motorcyclists are just as likely to be privately insured as any other road user.

A medical center study1 reported that injured motorcyclists in the trauma center relied on public funds a lower percentage of the time than did automobile drivers to pay their hospital bills during the same time period.

A university study2 reported that automobile drivers and motorcyclists have their medical costs covered by insurance at a nearly identical rate.

Conclusion: Injured motorcyclists are less likely than the general population to use public funds to pay for injuries sustained in crashes, and no more likely to be uninsured than other vehicle operators.

The most prestigious racing award given at the event, the Nicky Hayden AMA Flat Track Horizon Award honors the legacy and success of Nicky Hayden while recognizing the most promising amateur racer on the verge of a professional racing career. Competitors who wish to be considered for the Nicky Hayden AMA Flat Track Horizon Award should complete the Letter of Intent.

The Bill Werner AMA Fast Brain Award recognizes both speed and smarts and is awarded based upon the racer’s performance at the event, as well as official school transcripts supplied at the time of application. Competitors who wish to be considered should complete the Bill Werner AMA Flat Track Fast Brain Award application.

The AMA Vet/Senior Racer of the Year award is presented to a standout rider in the vet racing ranks.

The AMA Youth Racer of the Year award is presented to a top youth-class rider each year.
