An Evening with the Champions

The International Motocross Museum to host fundraiser October 2 in Chicago featuring several World Champions and over 40 factory motocross bikes

September 11, 2021

Ever wanted to get up close and personal with bona fide world champion motocrossers and the hand-made works motorcycles they won their championships on?

Well, your chance is coming up on October 2 in Chicago when the International Motocross Museum (scheduled to open in 2022) holds its “An Evening with the Champions” fundraiser banquet at the famous Pinstripes banquet hall in Northbrook, Ill. Actually, with the event starting at 2 p.m. and concluding at midnight, it’ll be more like A Day with the Champions.

The soiree will feature as many as 15 motocross Champions from the U.S., Europe and Japan along with a large selection — more than 40, reportedly — from the museum’s collection of one-of-a-kind factory works bikes and memorabilia.

According to the Museum, the event will be “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet and mingle with some of the legends of the sport,” and enjoy the machines they made their marks on.

Hakan Andersson, shown here with the monoshock-equipped Yamaha YZ637 works machine he rode to the 1973 250cc World Championship, will be one of the legends attending the Evening with the Champions banquet on October 2 in Chicago.

“We will have a wonderful afternoon followed by a multi-course dinner and a Q&A stage show where the Champions and their bikes will be displayed,” the Museum says on its website. “Our emcee [will be] Rick Johnson, assisted by Larry Wittmer of Red Bud fame. There will be testimonies and stories from the riders, autograph sessions, film and much more — all in the name of providing a wonderful experience for the Champions and ticket holders. Seating is limited and tickets are selling quickly.”

Deluxe guest tickets are $500, with tickets available on the Museum’s website (www.internationalmotocrossmuseum.org) along with information on the banquet hall (Pinstripes, 1150 Willow Road, Northbrook, IL 847.480.2323) and event hotel (Sheraton Northbrook, 1110 Willow Road, Northbrook, IL 847.480.1900). The room discount code is “Evening with the Champions.”

Each guest will be given a large, specially printed magazine with stories, photos and motocross history. There will be space for autographs on each rider’s page, as well. For more information email the Museum at Info@IMOTOXM.com
