Although it will take place during the final days of October, the AMA Cal Classic will be giving out something other than Halloween candy.
On Track School and 2X Promotions announced the AMA Cal Classic at Fox Raceway in Pala, Calif., will be a Scholarship Race. Riders in the Oct. 28-31 event will have the opportunity to race and win funds to be used toward college, trade school, technical institutes or private K-12 schools.
The top-10 finishers in each qualified class will be awarded funds that are placed into a 529 education savings account created by the racer’s parent or guardian.
Donations made to support the Scholarship Race will receive a 100 percent tax deduction through the Scholarship Endowment Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
The Scholarship Race program was discussed in 2018 before being implemented for the first time at the 2019 Cash for Class event at the Georgia Practice Facility in Cairo, Ga. The event raised more than $12,500 in donations — $9,300 of which were sent as scholarship certificates to racers’ 529 accounts. In 2020, the event paid out $15,140 in scholarships.
The 2021 Cash for Class event is scheduled for Nov. 12-14 at GPF in Cairo, Ga.
