Steve Deines: AMA SWM NATC Moto Trials Expert Sportsman Class champion

March 18, 2013

Steve Deines, of Montrose, Colo., finished the 2012 season in first in the Expert Sportsman Class of the AMA SWM NATC MotoTrials National Championship Series. Deines also raced in select AMA Endurocross events in the amateur class.

"In MotoTrials, one of my toughest competitors wasn't even in my class!" Deines explained. "Louise Forsley rode Womens Expert Sportsman and we rode the same line so we were able to compare scores. Louise is a good friend of mine and I have a lot of respect for her. She also signed up for a few amateur Endurocross events and we always seem to find each other out on the track or at the gate.

"My brother, Kyle Deines, was also a tough competitor in Endurocross and the WEBEracing.com Hare Scramble races. We were always going back and forth on the track."

Deines is 27 and has been racing since he was 5, competing in MotoTrials for 12 years and racing dirtbikes for about six years.

"I really enjoy a good challenge on two wheels," Deines said. "That's why I like the MotoTrials and Endurocross series so much!"

Deines doesn't have any set plans for 2013 yet.

"I hope to do most of the NATC MotoTrials series and Endurocross series. Racing around the country gets expensive when you're riding at the privateer level." But Deines does plan to continue racing as long as he can afford it.

What does Deines do in his free time? Mainly working.

"I work for www.osetbikes.com taking care of U.S. operations for the owners of the company out of the U.K.," he said. "Also, I really enjoy camping in the Colorado mountains and Moab/Utah desert. I also enjoy dual sporting my XR650R in the Colorado mountains."

"My main sponsor is Jason Cook with One Track Communications out of Montrose, Colo. Jason has been a huge help in getting me to some of these events. If it wasn't for him I would not have made it to the King of Motos!"

"I would also like to thank OSET Bikes, Davis Service Center, Highland Cycles, and Grand Mesa Motorsports for all of their support."
