About AMA Racing
AMA Racing is the amateur-racing department of the American Motorcyclist Association.
AMA Racing sanctions amateur motorcycle and all-terrain vehicle competitive events and series on the local, regional and national level. AMA Racing events include all disciplines of motorcycle competition, including motocross, enduro, desert racing, roadracing, trials, hillclimb, drag racing, hare scrambles and more.
AMA Racing events offer classes for riders of nearly all age and skill categories, from recreational riders to Pro-Am racers and up-and-coming youngsters destined for stardom in the professional ranks.
The top performers in both AMA Racing National Championship Series and at AMA Racing Grand Championship events are honored with AMA Racing National No. 1 plates in their classes at the annual AMA Racing awards banquet.
In addition to sanctioning thousands of races around the country each year, AMA Racing also organizes several high-profile, national-caliber events, such as the AMA Racing Dirt Track Grand Championships, the AMA Racing Road Race Grand Championships and the AMA Racing Vintage Grand Championships.
AMA Racing enforces the AMA Racing Amateur Competition Rulebook and manages a national rider classification system. The AMA Racing Amateur Competition Rulebook is written by AMA Congress, an elected body that represents the country’s AMA-sanctioned clubs and promoters.
In addition to managing the AMA’s involvement in amateur motorcycle racing, AMA Racing is responsible for the sanctioning of AMA Supercross. Working with promoting partner Feld Motor Sports and international sanctioning body Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), AMA Racing manages the on-site operations and rule enforcement for this professional racing series.
AMA Racing also is the U.S. affiliate of the FIM. As such, AMA Racing is responsible for affiliate duties at U.S. rounds of world-championship series and events, such as U.S. Grands Prix for motocross and World Superbike and the International Speed Trials at the Bonneville Salt Flats. AMA Racing also spearheads the AMA’s selection of team members for international team competition at the Motocross of Nations, the International Six Days Enduro and the Trial des Nations.
