Norman wins Round One of the AMA FMF/GPR National Hare & Hound Championship Series

February 06, 2013

The following is an industry press release...

In just 5 days, Round 2 of the AMA/FMF/GPR National Hare & Hound Championship Series will take place in the Spangler Hills OHV area in Southern California near Ridgecrest.

Hosted by the 4 Aces MC, the club has promised 90 miles of "fun on the run" at their 63rd Annual "Moose Run".  Pits & staging will be off Stephens Mine Rd, off Trona Rd.  The first loop will be approximately 45 miles and the second loop approximately 43 miles.  Start time 9:00am this Sunday!  (see attached flyer for more info)

Round 2 of the AMA/D37 Youth National Hare & Hound Series will take place on Saturday morning with the first race at 11:00am.  Round 1 was a great success as we saw many young racers participating with their families.  It was a great time for the kids!  Kenda is also giving away 2 sets of tires to two winners at each kid's event.

Kendall Norman surprised us all by showing up to race at Round 1.  Norman, who is not currently sponsored by any manufacturer, raced his own Honda 450x.  The 2010 NHHA Champ hasn't raced an NHHA event in quite some time but that didn't matter as he would charge hard early on in the 80-mile loop event and would bring himself and his bike to victory atop the podium in 1st Place Overall!  Along with receiving a $300 check from the host club's DMC member "Rick's Custom Shutters & Blinds", Norman would jokingly ask for sponsorships on the podium and hopefully we will see this Red Bull rider at Round 2.

After a rough 2012 season, JCR's David Kamo would prove that he's got what it takes to compete in this series and have a shot at the championship.  Kamo would race his JCR/Honda 450x and would bring himself and his bike to a 2nd Place Overall podium finish for Round 1.  Kamo had two podium finishes in 2012 and we know he will be atop it again in 2013.

Off Road Support's Jacob Argubright has started off the year with a bang.  After a few podium finishes in 2012, Argubright would once again bring his Kawasaki to a stellar finish of 3rd Overall on the podium.  Argubright has shown his potential to be a top competitor for the #1 spot this season.

Rounding out the Top 5 would be two new Beta bikes with one being ridden by Purvines Racing's Nick Burson, and another Purvines racer this year, Utah's TJ Hannifin.  The bikes proved well at their first NHHA round as these two battled with the rest of the pack during the 80-mile loop.  Best of luck to the Purvines Racing team with their new Beta bikes.

FMF/KTM's Kurt Caselli had a difficult day.  He had an early lead on the rest of the pack but then experienced some bike issues before the half-way point.  After having to do some repairs, he would lose time to his competitors but would still try to finish for some points.  During the second half of the loop, Caselli would come upon his friend who had suffered a broken leg, would ride him 2-up on his bike back to the pits, and would then drive him to the hospital.  Caselli threw away his race to help his friend and stated he would have to make up his points in the upcoming rounds.  Now that is true sportsmanship!

There are sure to be some great battles taking place this year as some of the classes are stacked with talent, some racers have moved into the Pro class and many have moved up a skill level!  With over 400 racers at this first round, it's making for some heated competition amongst friends and fellow racers.

New women's racer to the series, Riley Ellinger, would make her debut by taking the 1st Overall win for the women, with Maggie Pearson taking 2nd and Megan Blackburn taking 3rd.  It's great to see some new women racers in the series.

The ATV classes have grown tremendously over the last two years in the NHHA series.  With 25 ATV's competing at Round 1, there is plenty of competition for all A, B, C skill levels.  With some new Experts racing in 2013, it's going to make the 2012 Champ Andy Lagzdins have to battle it out for a third championship title.  Matlock Racing's Josh Caster would take the overall win at Round 1, followed by Fasst Co's Colt Brinkerhoff for 2nd place overall, and Dirt First rider and 2012 Champ, Andy Lagzdins, for 3rd overall.  It's going to be an exciting season for the ATV's.
